Welcome to
the HSCC's Website
The Humane Society of Cambria
County, Inc. has provided 32
years of service to companion animals and
the public. Founded in 1976 by Gail Suppes and
a group of others concerned about the welfare of stray
and unwanted animals within the county, we are a private,
not-for-profit, incorporated organization holding a class NP
kennel license, and are inspected and audited quarterly by the
Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture.
Financial support is
provided primarily by individual donations. Membership
fees, service fees, grants and fund-raising activities
also help support the shelter. The State
reimburses the shelter for services provided to them.
The HSCC received no funding from the Humane Society of
the United States or other national animal groups.
Being a non-governmental organization, we are not
supported through tax dollars.
The HSCC operates as
an open entry shelter, meaning that we accept stray as well as
owner-surrendered companion animals, including those that are sick,
elderly, pregnant, injured or aggressive. We have received more
than 126,000 animals since the
shelter first opened. The purpose of the Humane Society of
Cambria County is:
- To provide temporary care and
shelter for stray and unwanted companion animals from
Cambria County
- To place as many of these animals as possible
into permanent, loving homes
- To investigate reports of cruelty
to animals
- To educate the public
about responsible pet care
- To promote awareness of the
importance of spaying/neutering
- To advocate for the humane treatment
of all animals
The HSCC is run by the Executive
Director, and a part-time staff that includes a Humane Police
Officer, a Humane Complaint Coordinator, an Office Manager,
Kennel Attendants/Adoption Counselors, and other seasonal
workers. There
are also part-time employment opportunities available on an
occasional basis for kennel attendants. Employment
applications may be obtained at the shelter.
